Shana Gulati took a huge leap leaving a career in law to launch a jewelry line that combines her Indian heritage and love of New York City. She is inspired by the beauty, lifestyle and culture of both her native India and NYC. Lady Kismet combines NYC polish with exotic handcrafted detailing... Shana travels back and forth between the Big Apple and India to source materials and produce her collections.
What inspired Lady Kismet?
Lady Kismet a dream that I didn't know I had till a few years ago. Jewelry is a part of our daily life and culture, so when I decided to start my own business, it was a natural path. It was all very new to me but that was the most exhilarating part of it, creating something out of nothing. It has been quite the adventure so far and I hope it continues for many many more years to come!
Where does the name Lady Kismet come from?
Lady Kismet is a combination of ideas from friends and the final touch was my Dad's. The entire company is really a reflection of everyone in my life, from the names of the pieces, to the names of the collections, to the idea behind the designs, etc. Lady Kismet is a collaboration of everything and everyone in my life, that has come and gone or is still here for the ride!
How often are you back and forth between NYC and India?
I travel back to India at least twice a year for about a month at a time if not more.
Favorite Summer vacation spot?
"I actually don't have one favorite spot. I'm all about continuing to explore so it can be anywhere really just depends on where I land up! I do love Cinque Terre though... Can't go wrong there."
